Technical Guide: Choosing the Right Made-to-Measure Curtains

When a professional installer approaches project planning on site, selecting the right made to measure curtains system cannot rely solely on aesthetics. Window dimensions, fabric weight, and mounting constraints directly determine the long-term durability of the installation.

With 50 years of manufacturing experience in plastic injection and metal extrusion, Rutperfil has structured its made to measure curtains line around three core mechanical systems to resolve every on-site challenge.

Here is how to specify the optimal hardware according to your architectural requirements.

1. Drill-Free Glazing Integration: Kepler System

The Kepler system represents the peak of minimalist integration, engineered specifically for tilt-and-turn windows or architectural joinery where drilling into aluminum or PVC profiles is not permitted.

  • Engineering: Mounts via structural adhesive bonding directly onto the window frame, glass, or glazing bead, adding just 1.5 cm of projection.

  • Technical Specification: Operates on an extruded Ø18 mm aluminum roller tube housed within an ultra-compact cassette profile.

  • Load Capacities: Supports drop heights up to 220 cm with Screen Carina and up to 200 cm with Blackout Carina, at a maximum width of 120 cm.

2. High-Stability for Large Spans: Figaro System

When a project demands wide window spans, drive traction and tube deflection resistance become critical. The Figaro system is our heavy-duty solution for high-demand made to measure curtains installations.

  • Engineering: Configurable with short or long wall/ceiling brackets. It allows you to select between internal (concealed) or external bottom rails, as well as regular (closed) or waterfall fabric drop orientations.

  • Technical Specification: Employs an extruded Ø40 mm aluminum tube in manual configurations, scaling to a Ø44 mm tube in motorized versions to ensure optimal torque transmission.

  • Load Capacities: Assembles made to measure curtains up to 200 cm wide by 300 cm high without compromising mechanical smoothness, across both Carina fabrics and high-density Screen Basic ranges (1%, 3%, and 5% openness factors).

3. Recess Pressure Mounting: Taurus System

The Taurus system is engineered for inside-mount installations between walls or window jambs, offering clean, fast fitting without conventional side-screw brackets.

  • Engineering and Fitting: Features an intuitive installation mechanism: simply position the made to measure curtains inside the window reveal and rotate the adjustment wheel on the end plug side. Rotating the wheel expands the mechanism outward against the side walls, establishing a rigid, level pressure fit within seconds.

  • Technical Specification: Built on a Ø40 mm extruded aluminum tube operated by a high-precision chain control clutch.

  • Load Capacities: Accommodates spans up to 120 cm in width for the Carina collection (reaching up to 300 cm in height for Screen Carina and 240 cm for Blackout Carina) and up to 100 cm in width across the entire Screen Basic range (with drops from 200 cm to 220 cm).

Plug & Play Motorization

For smart automation, both Kepler and Figaro systems offer native motorized variants for made to measure curtains powered by a USB-rechargeable tubular motor, complete with charger, 3 m cable, and remote control.

The Figaro system incorporates the dedicated Fi25 motor plate with a Ø44 mm tube adapter, while Kepler integrates its proprietary Ø18 mm adapter. Both configurations eliminate the need for wall channelling or on-site electrical wiring.

Delivering zero-after-sales installations starts by specifying the exact mechanical configuration from the initial quote. Our made to measure curtains line is delivered fully fabricated, calibrated, and ready to mount.
